Right to food Campaign

An Interface Workshop on Food Security Programme was conducted by CREFTDA, Mayurbhanj in CREFDTDA Training hall, Jashipur in collaboration with Right to Food Campaign a state level network on 15th March 2014 at 10.30 AM.

 

Mr.Pradeep Pradhan was the chief speaker of the meeting. Chief guest Ms Sabitarani Naik, Chairman Jashipur Block , Ms Jyotshnarani Nayak, PS Member, Moudi GP, Ms Debashree Khatua, Sarapanch, Jamadasahi Gram Panchayat, Sarpanch of Jashipur GP, Journalist Mr. Dillip ku. Sahoo and Paralegal volunteers of the district, and some civil society representatives were the participants.

 

Chief speaker, Mr. Pradeep Pradhan in his deliberation discussed about the Law related to Food Security, & Right to information Act 2005. He discussed on the provision of Food security Schemes and the role and responsibility of State government, Central Government. In his deliberation he cited a number of instances regarding the present scenario of Food security of the people.

 

He highlighted the shifting of policy focus towards household level food security to per capita food energy intake for measuring of food security and poverty. Both the governments have been implementing a number of nutrition interventions for achieving food security at the household and individual level. The Public Distribution System (PDS) supplies food items, such as food grains and sugar, at administered prices through fair price shops. There have been a range of food-for-work and other wage employment programmes. Another approach adopted by the government is to target women and children directly; this includes mid-day meal programme for school going children and supplementary nutrition programme for children and women.

 

AIn the post lunch session a plan of action was developed for proper implementation of bill. In the workshop it was unanimously decided to make advocacy in different level i.e., from GP level to state level. For creating a wave in the community a number meetings and workshop is evident in tribal dominated district like Mayurbhanj.
